Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO)s

After viewing a video that was sent to me in the mail on Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO)s, and GMOs being portrayed in the video as not just bad but in some cases deadly, I decided to do my own research into this.

I started by looking into one of the largest GMO manufactures in the world, Monsanto Corporation.

Monsanto Corp has a very bad record of bullying countries, people, and bending the truth to their favor. See the below news reports for more details:

Monsanto bribing an Indonesian government official:

Monsanto sues uncooperative farmer:

PCBs released into the environment by Monsanto:

Monsanto and Fox TV Unite to Suppress Journalists' Free Speech:

Probe into bullying of Genetically Modified panel scientists:

Ashcroft and his donors - Did Monsanto buy itself an attorney general?:

• Information about the Monsanto vs Schmeiser case (though might be somewhat slanted since it is Scheiser's website), can be found at the below site:

The above is just the tip of the iceberg of the tactics used.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not seem to include any unbiased testing of GMO food products, or go through any type of true long term safety approval process. They appear to only have a consultation 120 days before the GMO product is to be sold to the public, and rubber stamp whatever the submission companies findings are.

The FDA does appear to collect many letters from concerned people, for what purpose I’m not quite sure.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) seems to have some concerns about GMO food products, but also doesn’t seem to take the necessary steps themselves to conduct any long term testing.

Every time humans decide to change Mother Nature to make a profit, no long term good has ever come from it. I might feel differently about this topic if greed was not the main driving factor, and if a real long term unbiased study was done to address the safety concerns, but that is not the case.

What I think is most shocking to me is that the gene that is intentionally targeted and changed in these GMOs, is not the only gene that gets changed. Do to the process used in changing these GMOs, other unintended genes also get changed at random. The process used can result in spontaneous mutations in the gene sequence after the new GMO has been released into the environment. This fact alone should raise important heath and safety concerns to warrant a long term study by people who have nothing to gain by the out come of the research.

If you would like to help get a law passed called "Genetically Engineered Food Right to Know Act", which will require labels for foods containing GMOs, please visit the below site. The below site also contains a list of organic food distributors.
